Whether you’re building a mansion fit for a Trump, or adding a laundry room to your humble abode, you’ll want to hire Ben Youngblood to do the job. With over 32 years in the business, Youngblood Construction takes on jobs of any size with professionalism and panache, and at a lower price per square foot than the big guys with whom he competes.
“We’re the underdogs,” Ben says from his small office. The secret is low overhead. Ben has only a few, trusted employees and has mastered the art of “value engineering”—doing more for less. “If we’re bidding apples to apples, which means the same materials and time constraints, we are the best price for the quality level by far.”
None of this cost cutting is evident in the final product. Ben builds spectacular, high-end homes with world-class architects at some of the swankiest Westside addresses. But that does not mean he turns his nose up at smaller jobs. Youngblood Construction has a special division for additions and remodels.
No matter the job, when you hire Youngblood you work directly with Ben, affable and professional. He comes with reliable, quality subcontractor referrals and works with clients to find the best bid value on every aspect of construction. “I’m a people-person. We bend over backwards to accommodate our clients.”
Tip: "Find your contractor before your architect. Go look at houses you like and research who built them. Get to know your contractor, decide if you trust him and develop a working relationship with him."
As an interior designer I know how things can get difficult for contractors with pricing, delays from subs and distributors, and the like. Ben was really top of things. He has a very good crew, which is critical and he can make sure things are done right. He has good follow up, is creative and he has good communication skills which makes him easy to work with. He is not the cheapest - mid priced - but he was worth it. He did a lot of work on our hillside home as well as a major remodel on OUR business. He is almost like an architect because of his ability to come up with solutions to construction and design details. Ben is the best contractor I have found.

I am a fairly sophisticated client; I come from four generations involved in the construction of high rise office buildings. Ben was continually involved in the creative process, as this was a design build. We were designing, while we were building. Our budget changed as we went because I went to higher end finishes and Ben met this revised budget. This was a very high end job with absolute granite counters, cherrywood cabinets, all oakwood flooring and wired through out for flat screen TV’s and a sound system. Ben was always on time and I can’t say enough about him.

I have only good things to say about Ben! He built our home 6 years ago and he always been there for us. During the last 6 years, if we have had any small jobs, like a door knob loose, he just has one of his guys come up and take care of the problem for us. He’s really good and we have had absolutely no problems with him. Ben was involved in the creative process with the changes to the original plans, but he also worked well with the architect and followed his plans. His prices are fair and reasonable.

I have not worked with any other contractors except Ben. He did our major remodel in 1989 and he was very accommodating. We did make some changes to the original plan that affected the budget and we were satisfied. There was no delay on the project. We felt it went reasonably well for a major remodel. We rented a house nearby and I was on the job almost every day. We recently had a minor situation on a duplex we own which Ben was very quick to rectify. Ben was on time, he did what they needed to do as they needed to do it. He is pleasant, reasonable and cooperative.

Everything was fine. Ben did a remodel of our condo, and his bid was reasonably priced. The bids from other contractors were way out of the ballpark. He has a great, efficient crew, very comfortable to work with. His crew has been with him for 25 years and they did a great job! It was so smooth, it gave us a comfortable level of confidence. He was always accessible and on time.

I manage 22 units and we had water damage in the lobby wall that caused substantial damage. Originally we considered this a simple job and we chose Ben because he could do it all, is fair and easy to work with. He was on time every day, if not early. We decided to add 2 weeks of work because we wanted to do a better job. They are 1 to 2 weeks ahead of time at this time. The quality of their work is amazing, so much better than just-good-enough. His pursuit of excellence has blown me away! I am really pleased with this project. Even though we initially hired them for a dress up repair project, Ben feels an ownership of the project and has been more than willing to work with our budget.”
