Many homes in Los Angeles boast lovely, old windows that refuse to open properly due to improper painting technique and the natural settling of the house. Rather than replacing your old windows, why not restore them with the help of Window Restoration & Repair?

Owners Scott Goldfarb and Ed Sanchez assert that there are many good reasons to keep your home’s original windows out of the landfill. Aside from the advent of dual glazing, old windows were designed and built better than new ones, and older growth wood is more impervious to bugs. Finally, replacement is usually more costly than restoration.

For homeowners who wish to keep their homes historically correct, Window Restoration & Repair is an ideal solution for drafty, ill-fitted windows. “What sets us apart is our experience,” Scott explains. “We specialize in windows and understand the mechanics of what we are doing.”

Ed and Scott remark that it takes a specific kind of craftsman to fix things rather than replace them. “You have to be part carpenter, part machinist, and part inventor to do this work.” Ed, who was once an installer of new windows, quips: “I used to think my repair work was a kind of penance for all the beautiful wood windows I yanked out and replaced with aluminum and vinyl!” Ed’s engineering background combined with his experience with windows make him uniquely skilled at restoration.

Ed and Scott clarify that it is normal for even five-year-old windows to require maintenance. New homes settle and the wood moves. Ed and Scott recommend refitting and weather stripping your windows every 10 to 20 years to protect your investment. This will save you the costs and hassle of more significant repairs in the long run.
Tip: "Paint your windows properly – a clean line 1/16” onto the glass and thoroughly along the bottom. Otherwise, it will wick water from the the underside like a Christmas tree."
Window Restoration & Repair does top-notch work. My experience with them could not have been any better. Their prices are competitive. They are clean and tidy and have great follow up. They had to come back to adjust one window and they did so, no questions asked, at no extra charge. The entire crew was at my house for three days and everyone was respectful and worked hard.

I have a 100 year-old Victorian house. All 17 windows were painted or nailed shut. Window Restoration & Repair sent in a crew of six workers who, over two days, neatly and cleanly, removed old paint and released the sashes, without removing the moulding. I was concerned because the moulding is mahogany and expensive to replace. I was really pleased with the quality. The follow up was good, too.

I have a historic landmark home in South Pasadena and Window Restoration & Repair redid my windows. I loved them. They were not only detailed in their work, but also polite and sensitive in how they treated our home. They were on time and accommodating and clean! The windows are now all functional and more air tight.

Window Restoration & Repair retooled seven windows for me and made them like brand new. I am really pleased with the quality of their work and their service. I would come home from work and the place was clean and everything was put away. It’s a bit pricey, but cheaper than buying new windows.
- Kevin, Long Beach
I had all 43 windows in my house worked on by Window Restoration & Repair. Only six had to be replaced due to dry rot. It’s not cheap, but neither is replacing your windows! Every window in my 1947 house now opens! The installers are nice and neat and customer oriented. They explained to me how to paint the windows properly. I was so happy to find out I could restore their windows instead of replacing them!

We used Window Restoration & Repair to fix the windows in our 1928 Spanish style house in Glendale. I was absolutely thrilled with their work. The crew was trustworthy, punctual and courteous. And the result is just beautiful.
